Evo.

Go with the Evo.

=) The BEST support on xda, and an amazing phone. I love it and best of all, 4g = sexy.

Battery life? Please, I can get a full day EASILY. Even more when I'm busy and not playing with pandora or angry birds =P

When I first got my EVO the battery life was okay. But lately I've been getting a full day out of it.

The only issue with it is the battery life

With the latest OTA, I've noticed stock unrooted Sense has been lasting a whole lot longer. In the latest update, they put in measures to stop 4G from constantly scanning if not in a 4G area. That was huge and a lot of people left that on.

Note that I am rooted using the Stock rom. Using Titanium Pro, I froze all of the crapware and I get a solid day out of my phone with heavy use (internet, wifi tether, Pandora, phone calls, and texts). I am very impressed with the latest OTA.

A day as in an 8hr work day or a day as in wake up to sleep time? I'm considering this phone.

A day as in wake up to sleep time. Usually after about 16 hours of use I still have upwards of 25%.

Right now I've been unplugged for 15 hours and am at 47%. I have about 15 minutes of phone calls, about 100 texts, 30 minutes of using Reddit is Fun, checking email periodically on both my exchange server and gmail, using dictionary.com's app and droid law's app for at least a combined total of 20 minutes today, and to top it all off wireless tether for maybe 10 minutes.

I seriously love my phone. Remember though that I am rooted and running setCPU to underclock when my screen is off.

Rooted, and you basically mustbroot it, it has the best rom community of any phone, you can get an easy 25 hours on it maybe even more!

And the fact that its hardware is STILL better than phones coming out today.

Name one popular phone released in the last 6 months that doesn't have better hardware than the EVO. For fuck's sake, it doesn't even have a GPU.

[–]BradartToroPlus, AOKP|Trinity Kernel 0 points1 point ago

...nexus s, optimus s/t/vortex, droid x, droid 2, droid pro, transform, epic, vibrant, fascinate

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

...every single one of those phones has better specs than an EVO (Sans Optimus, since I don't know what that is).

Nexus S, Epic, Vibrant, and Fascinate all absolutely demolish the EVO in GPU benchmarks, considering it has one of the worst GPUs of any "high end" phone on the market today (Placing behind even the original Droid).

And don't even get me started on how much better the Galaxy/Nexus S screen is than the EVO...

Edit: Here's a side-by-side of Quake 2 running on a phone with the snapdragon vs. a phone with hummingbird. Since you're a little slow I feel I have to point out that the Desire and Evo 4G have almost identical internal hardware.

[–]BradartToroPlus, AOKP|Trinity Kernel -1 points0 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The screen that's useless in daylight and looks hella pixelated? it's brighter and has slightly deeper black. Whoa. We could talk about the hummingbird processor running at the same speed and locking up all the time, or the cheap feeling haptic feedback, or the cheap plastic construction of the galaxy s line. We'll ignore the fact that samsung is the least likely manufacturer to update software, the lower quality camera, and the dimmer flash. How about call quality, which is way better on the evo, and the gpu meaning jack shit if you don't play graphically intense games. Nexus s lacks an sdcard slot and has even cheaper construction than the galaxy s phones, and I've seen gorilla glass shattered after one drop while I've seen evos stand up to some much rowdier shit. HDMI out is a plus, as well as lacking all the hardware issues of the g2, same specs and better performance than the mytouch 4g, and the thinner body than all of them (sans the nexus s)

Edit: Also, since you're a little slow, I'll just go ahead and state that I sell at LEAST twice the number of EVOs even after demonstrating the Epic, Droid X, Continuum, Fascinate, and any other android phone for that matter even while I'm explaining everything you've said and showing them the differences.

There's a reason the Evo is still setting sales records while i sell maybe 1 epic every two weeks.

For reference, i work in the mobile department for the highest volume Best Buy in our region.

It sounds like you really haven't ever used a Galaxy S and are mindlessly spouting comments you've heard here before to justify your purchase.

Here's a hardware comparison between the EVO 4G and Galaxy S. Inside, the Galaxy S makes the EVO's screen look like absolute shit, and outside the EVO is almost 100% washed out while doing anything except browsing, but the Galaxy S still looks very usable. Also, if you think the Hummingbird and Snapdragon chipsets "run at the same speed" you really don't know anything about processors at all, and I may just be arguing with an idiot.

[–]BradartToroPlus, AOKP|Trinity Kernel 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Aside from having a fascinate for 3 weeks and an epic for 2 and using them alongside my Evo, you're probably right. The fascinate completely locking up probably wasn't that big of a deal, and the fact that when two clock speeds are the same, even though the hummingbird operates on less binary instruction, doesn't change the fact that the clock speeds are the same. Overall the Evo is just better.

Oooh, argumentum ad populum, that's cute.

By that logic, the Nintendo Wii must have much superior hardware than the Playstation 3, you know, because they sell more!

Must be a breeze to get a job working at Best Buy these days.

See, you're making this personal when it isn't. Obviously, you are the first person on earth whose opinion is factually correct.

Edit: also, one could argue that a more innovative style of gameplay and more fun games make the Wii better.

Once you calibrate the battery (1/2 days of being able to use the phone sporadically), the Epic 4G is great. I'm a sucker for physical keyboards, though, so YMMV.

[–]muyoso 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Epic 4g is seriously the best phone out right now. The only reason to choose the Evo over the Epic is the kickstand or the slightly larger screen. The Epic is better in every other regard.

Native playback of 720p mkv and avi divx files, instead of converting to mp4 for the Evo. Ridiculous that you have to convert files for the Evo to be able to run it.

Dedicated camera button and MUCH better camera app means the Epic4g takes much higher quality photos, on the same level as the iPhone 4.

Don't really need to mention the OBVIOUS differences in which the Epic is better, so I will leave it at that.

[–]dom085 0 points1 point ago

Rockplayer is virtually the VLC of Android (well, until VLC releases a player for Android) and can play nearly any format. No converting necessary.

[–]muyoso 0 points1 point ago

Rockplayer is great. Still can't play 720P videos on the EVO with it without it stuttering like mad.

Is the obvious one that Samsung pretty much releases phones then abandons the idea of software updates? Or that their hardware is completely subpar from a quality standpoint? Or maybe that they load a lot more crapware on the phone? Or is it the complete lack of any sort of order in the app drawer? Maybe it's that they couldn't even properly code the capacitive button backlight. Or probably the lack of real community support. It's probably the fact that the screen is useless in the sun, though.

[–]muyoso 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Everything you said is bullshit. Samsung released Froyo to Sprint months ago. It was because the carriers were flipping shit that 2.2 was rootable through an app in the market that they demanded Samsung start all over with 2.2.1. Their hardware is the best on the market. Oh no, they have a plastic back which still feels amazing, cry me a river. Samsung doesn't load any crapware on the phone, that is the carriers. There is order in the app drawer. If you are not intelligent enough to press the menu button or load a different launcher, that is your problem. I have no idea what you are taking about with the backlight for the buttons, they work perfectly. Lack of community support? There is a lot of community support on XDA, and it will only increase when official froyo is released.

Also, the Super AMOLED screen is amazing in the sun.

Everything you wrote is nonsense..

Nexus S if you are planning to upgrade phones within 5 months. Otherwise 4G on the myTouch might end up working better later down the road as it currently gets pretty similar speeds to the nexus s on 3G. If stock android with no bloatware is important to you, get the nexus s.

It is probably worth waiting at least until CES to see what new phones get launched. Disclaimer: I have a nexus s, i love it, and have no issues with it, but I also don't get 3g where I live.

I wish I had desire hd. it has some impressive specs and its definietely the most elegant android phone. probably even prettier than the iphone 4 (I don't like apple at all, but you gotta give them that - they do make good looking stuff).

Stay with T-Mobile and get a MyTouch 4G. The speeds are amazing (network and processing) and the phone is simply incredible. It will also fit much better in your pocket than the Evo. My only complaint with the phone is the name, but that is a non-issue. I don't understand why this phone has been overlooked, it performs better than every available android phone on the market.

I've spent the past few months with a droid 2 on verizon, and i'm quite happy with it. I really wanted a phone with a physical keyboard.

[–]InvaderDJVZW GNex AOKP b36 1 point2 points ago

It depends on the carrier and what you want. For T-Mobile it is the Nexus S with the G2 being better if you want a keyboard. A lot of people like the My Touch 4G and it has some good specs, but I don't like that Sense Expresso skin at first glance and I don't like the fact the Search button is now the Genius button (can probably be easily changed though)

For at&t...just don't go with at&t. If you have to get the Captivate. Maybe the at&t Nexus One if you can find it for cheap.

For Sprint, the Evo 4G or the Epic 4G if you want a keyboard.

For Verizon...I would wait. You like the DROID X, and that is a good choice if you don't mind the skin and the locked bootloader. Otherwise, I would wait until this new HTC phone is revealed at CES. Will have same screen size as the DROID X but it will be running Sense, will have LTE, and will probably be an unlocked Google phone which means no Bing BS and should be easily customized. The DROID Incredible is IMO one of the better phones available on Verizon but it is getting a little old.

It's highly subjective. Droid X is best overall. Droid Pro is best for international business.
