Please don't:
- Spam. Don't spam the channel with a single message repeatedly or messages longer than 4 lines. Use pastebin to share long messages with the channel.
- Flame/troll. Flaming or trolling #reddit and other irc channels is counter productive. Keep conversation friendly. Just as the old adage goes “If you don’t have anything nice to say; don’t say anything at all.”
- Use abusive language. Please do not use offensive language or post offensive links in #reddit. Freenode and #reddit have users from around the world, please be aware that something that is not offensive to you may still be offensive to other users. Racist, homophobic, sexist and other abusive language will not be tolerated.
Please do:
- Follow freenode server policies. Freenode server policies in addition to outlining the server wide policies of the network as a whole has additional helpful links.
- Link to interesting articles/reddit posts. When linking posts from reddit please use “reddit links” whenever possible. Please tag questionable links as not safe for work or NSFW. Keep in mind that #reddit is open to members of all ages and please avoid posting anything that is pornographic in nature.
- Be considerate. All conversations in irc are open; feel free to join in and add your input into the discussion. We have users from all walks of life and varying degrees of proficiency. Please treat all users equally and with respect. Remember that sarcasm and other nuances of face to face conversation do not exist on irc.
- Practice assuming positive intent. Assuming positive intent means assuming the best of our fellow users keeps our channel friendly, open and pleasant.
- Keep the personal personal. Keep any personal conversations or issues with a specific user out of the channel. Like any large collaboration there are bound to be differences of opinion and conflicts of personalities. Keep personal conflicts personal and limit them to private messages.
- Keep discussion open. #reddit is intended to provide a discussion channel for redditors; while we encourage users to keep conversation in the channel open and flowing please be aware that lengthy debates hinder organic, natural, chat. If you attempt to start a discussion and conversation does not organically flow in your favor, do not repeatedly attempt to start said conversation. This irritates everyone. There is a fine line between cutting through the noise, and contributing more to it.
