Let's get it straight: is handling pork against the rules in Islam or just consuming pork?
[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 3 years ago
The real question is, what isn't against the rules of Islam?
[–]TheGood 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago
Severing the heads of one's enemies?

Here's the actual deal. In the early days of the Old Testament, (from which the pork rules are derived) eating and handling pigs (cloven hoofed animals) carried the risk of infection from various diseases. So, not only consumption, but handling of the animals carried the risk - which is why you have both kosher and halal methods of (approved) meat handling.

But things have changed! We have Lysol now!

Does not being around cops also violate his beliefs?
[–]crusoe 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago
Handling != Consume.

They should make him scientifically prove that handling pork products is somehow detrimental to his health.
If he can't prove it he can serve pork or get fired.

Maybe next time in the job description they should ask for religion, and deny anyone who denies them pork.

If a vegetarian wanted to become a caterer, and had moral objections to catering for meat-eaters, then that person would just have to call themselves a Vegetarian Caterer, and only seek jobs catering to vegetarians.
This was stupid politically correct drama waiting to happen. It's not discrimination if you took the job!

I understand that bacon & Canadian bacon are not the same product, but how much more can two countries be divided by a common language?
When did 'bacon' acquire the additional meaning of 'sausage'?
[–]kirun 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago
Bacon doesn't mean sausage. The headline has just been adapted for the audience, as the objection also covers bacon.
