The Ultimate Bacon Adventure to Oregon (cyberbilly.com)

So I know this is from last fall, but I randomly found it and had to share. I live in Portland, and regularly visit Otto's for lunch. It's most excellent. They usually have 3 kinds of links on the grill at lunch hour, a killer sandwich counter, and of course all the meat and cheese one could want.
Almost.
There is another place, out east of Portland called White's Country Meats. It's my local Bacon Mecca. (That sounds wrong somehow...) Anyway, they have the most amazing "country bacon". Now I've seen several different things called "County Bacon". However this stuff from White's Meats is sliced at about 3/8" thick, and it's huge, not rectangular slices, but more like a fat slab of ham sized bacon. Like 1lb=5 slices sized bacon.
So I had a few friends over for steaks on the Que, and before the steaks went on, I whipped out the country bacon. Straight on the grill, it crisps up nice, and lubes the grill well for the up coming steaks. Plus, this king of bacons is a hell of a companion to an ice cold beer out on the deck on a sunny afternoon.
My next purchase and grilling of White's Country Bacon will be photographed, and shared with my fellow Bacon Redditors.

I love the Original Bavarian Sausage place. We always stop by there before a big camping trip to make sure we have all sorts of meat to grill and cook on a stick!

The Original Bavarian Sausage joint is one stop I haven't made yet. I'm a regular at White's now, but still visit Gartner's now and again. The Porterhouse steaks I've been getting from White's are insanely good. They also have "pepper" sauce marinated petite sirloins which are an excellent value and glorious on the plate. All that plus the amazing country bacon will keep me driving an extra 5 miles to White's Country Meats. White's is right off Hwy 26 outside Gresham, you can easily hit it on the way into the Mt. Hood National Forest, if you dig camping out that way.
I usually head down to Elk Lake, up in the hills 11 miles north of Detroit Lake. No pavement, no frills, less people, no RV's, no power boats allowed, it's heaven.
